In honor of the Seward’s Day holiday, John Venables and Alaska Living History will present a celebratory performance at 7 p.m. on Monday at Centennial Hall. Venables is better known in one of his many historical guises, including William Henry Seward.

When Lieutenant Commander Gary Ryals interviewed for the University of California Los Angeles Anderson School of Management’s executive MBA program in 2006, he did so on a secure phone line from his command center in Baghdad, Iraq. During his first year in the program, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement during his 2005-2006 Iraq tour. While at Anderson, he emerged as a leadership mentor to his peers and was selected to be the class commencement speaker.

University of Alaska Southeast’s Alumni & Friends is the go-to organization for people who want to support UAS in a fun and meaningful way. Led by President Jerry Burnett (MBA ‘87, MPA ’89), the board has recently been focusing on two of its goals: Supporting its multi-regional alumni base and encouraging student success through its scholarship fund.

I was chatting with a woman during the basketball playoffs. She told me she had watched the big game the night before. Then she laughed. Her whole family had watched that game the night before, but each one was in a different room, watching on their own TV. Five people, five televisions, one house, one game.
